A Soul Tries To Climb

A soul tries to climb
Inside its skin

Like a sleeping bag,

In the soft blend of night
And a bonfire’s glow,

And I know my engine

Is the moon. It’s the room
Of the cabin I stay in,
With you, in charge of Light (code for open)
Boss of Demon. When the boat, my name, reaches the rain’s

End. The walls of the cabin closed
In so far they became space
For shadows of trees cast across

The road where Mother of openness
Lowered Her Ship.

She said time and place
Are always dying but can be saved.
She dropped me off in a riot
Of mind, between forest

Blending black and green,
And water waveless enough to reflect her highest thought.
In that flash of mirrors, windows,
TV screen, and clouds as dark as oil,

She was mourning
Remembering herself as two.
