And Littered

Mark Fleury

And littered
With underlings, my spine’s

Lungs provide their own
Escapes for the pollutants

That have judged the space
That makes expansion possible.

Particles deemed inferior
To the spread

Of infectious breezes
Over cloud-quaked

Lakes must be

Relegated to alleyed
Tail pipes: drooling national anthems.

They all lead
To the same core values,
Cleansed by engines

Or organs: a fight lost
Or won has the same center.
The same feelingd thought.

It’s latently graceful,
The play of one place
With many deaths, cracks

In sky. And the body is weak
Against this violent dust.
