Sky Gutted

Mark Fleury

Sky gutted in

Reflection
And bones used as a key

To a soul-sucking
Morality. What’s gotten
Its fill? The clouds

And sky have become
Negatives

Of each other, and the rain,

Used souls that cut
Through them where they meet,

Are the flecks of red
In the marigolds, beneath

The center of the storm,

Mixed with orange
Where the yellow becomes

Gold. The dark cloud over

My head, a grave, is the
Doorway to Muse’s world

As She cleans Her
Teeth with the vacant
Bones of my

Outside world.
The evolution of the stars’

Angles, also the hole
In the ocean’s

Backbone, is heard
Rustling through the waves

Of wind in the gray grass blades
On the black and white football field,

A head, pink and for me,
Vacated by the beach
Of the shell, Angel

That’s the shaft
Of the marigold’s stem:

The one Thought of God.
And the space for this Christ-
Light is Mary, Golden Sound.
