The Autobiography

Mark Fleury

The autobiography
Of the walls I used to scare

Away air from lungs
Started from another

Just torn down. Most of the mice
Had left their mazes

To cross bridges across town

And become muses
Underground to avoid

The flood. The flow started
As tears in the eyes

Of Spirit, slave
To breath, whose electric

Shaver left his head
Blank,

Like with drawing
All of one’s savings

From the bank,

The highway from midnight
To dawn

To reach speech
Is navigated by breath, the mind
Between Body

And Soul. Middle-way, broken
Line, to either side
Of the inward way out, to heal

The sentence. The labyrinth
In my head, hearted
By a kind of grave
That’s exactly not me,
Had to be mourned,

Just as the plastic face
Of a celebrity does, made
Gaunt with loneliness
When the camera’s flash is away.

A Christ like kryptonite

In the lead box
That Superman couldn’t see
Through is a better example

Of why a shore

Rather than the flood itself.

The mouse sat in there,
To scare The Muse out of the ground

Of the mole,
The shrew of its own ghost.
Fear could make

A key out of my bones,
To open the lie

That the sun

I revolve around
Is real, even enough
To convince my senses,
Made visible by it,

That it’s true
Because The Angel
Is a dream.
