Zen Queen of the Solstice Sun

Mark Fleury

Summer solstice
Sun has driven the slant
Of rain’s

Minds that to me are just in wind.

A final thought melting,
A lollipop of masculine space,
This longest day’s

Sane brains. Birds’ songs are its thoughts
Through my transparent

Death’s bow-tied funeral.

That pure pitch. As though spinal
Lightning had a beak.

Lilac scent
Couldn’t be held in a casket,

No matter the possessions of birds’
Where: I am reality’s

Birth. I was in the back seat
Of my own procession.

My glasses’ glare reached
My piano key teeth. My eyes
Like water’s path of least resistance,
Running off the cliffs,

Singing of my black and white
Checkered suit; it’s how my sight

Smiled.

Not rebelling against dying,
Just thinking it through to its end.
Thus waterfalls

Into pupils’ centers
Are in your head I name God.

The liquid sun’s leaking

A train, and the horizoned
Tracks form the end

Of your wand’s sex:

Two eyes, one sight.

My train of thought’s hauling
Ocean’s roar to your door;

A crumpled projection

Delivered to high.
At the grave of my birth.
And when it leaves me, sound exits inside

To touch your brain, a name I’ve given
To who is outside myself: You my Queen,
To love and worship, are my solstice sun.
