Even The Form

Mark Fleury

Even the form
Of Word made flesh
Is beyond language.
The Golden Gates means the way

Out from under the flood
For where the lambs of fleeced
Faces are the exposed souls

Of drowned, defeated, naked Muses.

They’re prisoners of the Devil
As the shore, are washed up on
His feet, wings sopping wet from
The sea of Angelic evolution.

The sprawl of a sentence wave
Cannot reach Devil’s eyes.
The tide is too low and his gaze is
Full of what language can’t touch.

He drinks Angels with his eyes
To quench his thirst for
The fluid formlessness of

Their wandering thoughts.
Finally he chooses just one Angel.
She’s been all the way to Atlantis.

Because the Devil as form
Is God’s possession, he can consume her
Like alcohol, spirits, and as she
Disappears, becoming his, absorbed

Into him just by looking at her,
The only content is his union

With her surrendered will.
