Poem for d.a. levy

Mark Fleury

The poem, whom he loved,

After shaking sunlit seaweed
From its hair, their shared
Breathing became code for
His “angel of death,” who winked
At him, but his eye shaped his

Sentences. Sometimes the side
Of a pyramid, UFO,

Or a hole in mirrors,
He watched “emptyness dissolve”
Angel’s name. Bird chirps the same

As ticks of a clock. Confusion,
A living body, broken and forgiven,
So that the heart, nameless, can be
The living pattern of this world.

So why did Cleveland kill d.a. levy?
This sentence contains all of the Angels
Who wept that day. But the Golden
Gates of the syllable opened for him
Because he knew that form

Can’t live beyond itself.
