The Mountain Seems Surrounded

The mountain seems surrounded
By bicycles, wheels winding down
Its roads like the teeth of an ocean
At midday, when the sun is both the rider and the

Head. Serpent mask. The waves also
Are a friendly gesture. Naked ego,
The biking waver, sees the lightning
Bones through the blue rain and
The mask’s holes.

The female part of the mask wearer
Is the opening of the sentence,

The line, the beam, the feeling at the
Edge of when it has become vertical.
That’s what happens to wheels when
They touch the sun’s redness: Serpent-dusk
And Muse-dawn serve the same live wire.
