Womb Poem #2
Mark Fleury
Poem shaped womb. A gift for you,
Before we’re born, of which the universe
Has room for, while having none
For ownership, by either corporations
Or countries. There’s a pumpkin pie
On the sill, cooling. The steam rising
Is from the gleam of a beach as the tide
Retreats to show the grains of sand shine
The sheen of mind. Blue darkness breaks
Like an umbrella opening after the rain
Has stopped. Another window’s
Flowerbed has the same blue
The darkness once had, beads of dew
On petals where stars have disappeared
In the daylight. It’s Thanksgiving
On Valentine’s Day, an American heart
Breaking its wave of blood
Across a snowbank,
In the third pane, that goes all the way
Inside the chest of winter.
