All of the rituals
Honoring fallen soldiers

Are flags on the beds
That their children pray over

To keep the moonlight

From exposing the bones
Of their dead parents
To the enemy.

Awash in the sweet flood
Of the magazine gloss,

The love of fame that protects
The war makers from our eyes,

Too starstruck to see,
The children drown in the glare.
