SUMMER IN THE WAREHOUSE

after my son’s typical mediocre
freshman year of college mostly Cs a
course or 2 dropped incessant questing for
easy professors frat pledging&parties and
all the rest of that he got a job spent the
summer in a warehouse packing boxes
loading trucks stacking shelves unpacking
boxes unloading trucks unstacking shelves.
and when he made the honor roll
in his sophomore year I said I was proud of
him “I guess you’re serious about school
now that you’ve made your friends done
the silly fraternity thing established yourself
found yourself put all that social stuff
behind you.” he didn’t pause for even a second
“no Dad” he shook his head “that’s not it
I’m studying hard now because I spent the
entire summer in a warehouse and know
what I don’t want to be doing with my life.”
