I feel like I'm in prison

I'm very bored
at work, uninspired, apathetic
as an old orange peel
in the mulch bin, uninterested
in the same old grind
day in and day out.
I don't know what to do
with myself for the next 20 years,
don't want to stay, can't leave,
unable to find another job,
a way out, an escape
from this drab windowless place.
I'm waiting as the Fates
determine my future. Yes,
I know I should have been
a mountain man or forest ranger,
a marine biologist or fossil hunter
instead of an office worker,
so staid and so pale
too long away from the sun.
