IN THE IMAGE OF GOD

How may we diagram its course?
This spark as from a distant unseen star,
A source of flood-tide, history, and art...
Its origin beyond the scope of scientific probe.
But for the shroud of sleep or affectation,
All too often draped across the line of sight,
Uncredited, unknown, primordial light!
Reflected in an impulse humankind could not escape
Were it to drown itself in mindlessness.
And something visceral would never let it die.
Of sentient presence surely...no one flees.
The ember glows in homo sapiens alone.
All other measurements of mind aside,
One passion fires the engine of alacrity.
One wrenching invocation undenied
In shared divinity, our portion...to create!
