Andy’s Ant

Kay Lynn
Copyright(C)1996

This is a story of a little boy and an Ant. You will see into a small piece of what goes on within a little boys mind.
Andy is a little boy who is curious to everything around him. He gets himself ready for school and with a little help from dad will decide what’s going to be for breakfast this morning. Andy is fairly quiet and reserved, yet does have his moments of almost never ending talk when the time is right. He is full of vitality, very intelligent, has a great sense of humor and has always been much of a problem solver. He is considerate to others feelings and wants only the love and attention that every child deserves.
After a full day at school and after wards baseball practice with dad, he is home and heads out side to play for a while. Andy walks along taking in everything around him; happy and content. There on the side walk he notices a tiny Ant. He stops and squats down to get a better look. Andy likes animals, bugs and insects as most little boys do and will take the time to watch and study them. He is fascinated at the wonder of such a small creature that must see him as such a big giant. As he watches the Ant many things go through his curious little mind. Andy wonders where this tiny Ant is coming from, how far he’s been walking and where he is going to. “Wow!” he thinks as he notices the piece of food, or something the Ant is carrying. “Its almost as big as he is! I bet he’s taking it home to his family for dinner,” he thinks to himself. Andy really admires the determination and skill of this small insect. He puts his finger on the sidewalk on front of the Ant to see what he will do. As he figured, the little Ant just walked around it. Next, he gets a blade of grass and puts in front of him, wanting to know if the Ant will go around it too, or go over it. Once again the Ant just went around the obstacle put in front of him and continued along his way.
Its really fascinating to watch children investigate the world around them. To wonder how there curious young minds perceive things . To wonder what they are thinking as they conduct their own little experiments with life, just as Andy is doing with this busy Ant.
Andy has been so consumed with this Ant that suddenly he notices the sun is starting to go down and he himself needs to be headed home for dinner too. He stands up and looks down at the Ant one last time. He has had a lot of fun watching and playing with this little Ant today. “What a neat creature,” he thinks to himself, just before he smiles a big smile.... and squishes his little head. :)
