School Bus
D. Michael McNamara
The actor wants to be a novelist,
the novelist an actor:
the whole world wastes away wishing.
And I? I want to be a school bus
with flashing lights
and an obnoxious paint tone,
driving youth every day
to the same destination,
where everyone gets off,
where everyone builds walls.
I could build a house
with the bricks I’m throwing.
But I want a government job,
flashing lights, a long body,
strong chasis, unlimited supply of youth,
and a federal law which states
that everyone has got to stop when I do.
