and after you left
I rolled up my jacket for a pillow
and stretched out like Kansas

immersed in contentment
fell asleep to the sounds
of rain on the barn roof

and woke in a cathedral of light
built of slanted beams of
yellow spring sunshine

striped across the hayloft
full of dust motes dancing
and knew it was the last time
