NO PROMISES
C Ra McGuirt
these days,
i don't seem to be
popular as a proteg€.
maybe i'm too old now
to make it interesting,
or could be that my mentors
expected more of me...
married for seven barren years
for words,&underemployed
for fourteen in a restaurant,
divorced from academia
i wonder what promise
i could have made
to have ever made them
call me promising?
none of them owe me
anything,
not even their
attention.
i only mention
their silence
to let me know
i'm here.
