Honorary Transcendence

By Peter Scott

Water cascaded
On an individual basis
Yet looked upon as autonomous
Sensibilities stretched to a conclusion
Of concession and conformity
Never hinted
Seldom Seen
A determination chosen not of merit to
Bulk
On the whim of preference
Granted individually to each droplet
Lunging itself to a
Startling destination
Weighed without compassion
Deciding to confer only with fact
The realization it wasn't different
Meant to descend
Or pool
With all the rest

How lonely the water huddled
To abject partners
The droplets staying behind
Or hanging to anti-gravity itself
Floating in puddled groups
Sixty inches off the ground
Not defiant
Fear relegating the clusters
To such titles
Loathe decreeing the principles
Of common law
For all against the
Laws of science
Droplets of water chose
A free spree from the mold
The paradigm that lakes
Rested on sea beds

United in separation
Liquid was flesh
Binding the bizarre substance
To itself
It elongated
Spanning no less than
An entire forest
Encapsuling once then
Never more
Dawning on the land
An elusive truth
Theorems debunked
Quietly
Subtly
Resurrecting religion as a common truth.
