Only Shades of Gray

By Peter Scott

The night air is cold
A restful bliss collected
Family members are asleep
Darkness surrounds me
As does a memory of you
One of those conversation
We dared discuss through forced duress
Often it occurs
In a blur of calmness
The reality of where our trails lead
And path already traversed
Scares me a bit
Reading my timid dreamings
Paper violating a trusted confidence
Sharing with you
Matters I blush forthright to name
Society has deemed to inhibit
The act of true love
Misinterpreted as sex
Or the act of ³screwing²
A thousand different names adorn
Two easily juxtaposed activities
While in reality there is retreating fear
Towards showing my love for you
I blush at love's tainted shadow
Walking in a muddle of perversities
No, assure yourself I mean none of the latter path
Although I do want to make love with you
Now
As a matter of fact
Long to present the ultimate intimacy
Yet I resist
It would be myopic to cross that barrier
Neither yet wise
Nor reliant on our own
It's something to be saved for cognition
On a lonely night in the cold
Someday that final oneness will be struck
Until then
Kiss me passionately
Deeply
Let me know you care
It is easy resorting to classical means
Resisting is the real test
Kiss me hard
Hold me tightly
Stare into my emotional eyes
My love.
