Sacred Pledge

I was
For all intensive purposes
In the position I most quested to gain
Spent my time
Paid my dues
Enjoyed the fruits of my labor
Without the title
I so desired
While in the vortex
Of that most desired
I lived an uncommitted life
Reaping all the benefits
Avoiding the obligation
A choice not chosen
Though thrust upon thee
Permanent in my eyes
Without commitment
It was all too temporary
Precariously perched
Until the nirvana faded away.
