do not feed the birds

Geoff Stevens

A pair of blackmoods
are nesting
in the tree
outside your window.
When you have
loads of washing
to hand out
or a large lawn
to mow,
they cast dark clouds
upon you.
Even when you're relaxing
in your sunlounger
the shadow of
a blackmmod's wing
can fall.
They have also
been known to resort
to incessant cackle
outside you bedroom window.
so you can't sleep.
Blackmoods
are predators,
they prey on
busy people,
those with many chores.
When people rest
after a trying day,
blackmoods swoop
and peck away
happiness.
Now beware,
as this is
their breeding season
& blackmoods breed rapidly,
lay many eggs,
each one a potential blackmood,
so that people prone
to blackmoods
fell as though
they are always walking
on eggshells,
afraid that,
any moment,
another blackmood
will hatch.
