The Puddle

Jennifer Lynn Utterback

A little girl sits upon
the wet sand next to a
puddle.
The bright golden water
splashes against her small
feet.
Through the growing dark
she sees a man walking to
her.
She is not afraid, she
knows the sand will protect
her.
When the man reaches her
he stands within the
puddle.
The little girl looks at
the now dark sky and yells
“Now!”
The sand beneath the man
begins to swallow him
within.
The man screams for help but
the little girl watches the
water.
Soon only the man’s head
is visible and he is still
screaming.
The little girls gets up and
pushes the man’s head into the
sand.
When he disappears she
quietly whispers, “Bye bye
Daddy.”
