Sunrise PRIVATE
On the morning
of my grandmother's
surgery, a crisp cool
almost autumn morning,
I woke before the sun.
Standing on the balcony in
my ugly plaid flannel robe
drinking my morning
coffee, I watched nature's
most spectacular event.
The sun peeked his bright yellow
top above the horizon, looked at
me and appeared to wink.
My coffee felt cold against
my tongue now as the warm
orange haze touched my face.
As the sun rose
above the horizon, his
brilliant rays reached out
to me, hugged me, and I knew
that she would be all right.
