there’s nothing you
can do,
she’s dead,
and part of you is
in the ground
with her.
She’s dead and
you are at an age
she never got to
reach.
She is dead and
you are recalling
store fronts,
bitterly scribbling
verses fused around
the memory of her voice.
She is dead and
ten years feels like
ten days,
she is dead and
you don’t know
what to do and
it’s all been
said before.
