Gregory Liffick

The homeless
street musician
pushes the empty
wooden crate
up the steep street,
his lopsided burden
poised impossibly
atop a small,
wobbly skateboard.
He stops at
odd downbeats,
playing the mute keys
of the broken, portable
electric piano
tied to his one-man
would-be bandwagon.
Imagined music
flows from his head,
if not his fingers.
