The pale
thin fingers
of the bohemian
literature student
dramatically turn
the pages
of a weighty,
required text.
She earnestly
takes in each
profound phrase,
only stopping
to sip seriously from
a cooling Styrofoam cup
of coffee bar
cappuccino.
Her clothing
drapes loosely,
pretentiously.
Smothered is
any last spark
of frivolous
taste and delight
in the written word,
leaving only a
heavy, dark cavity
within a
drab costume.
