still her past
her departure, her death.
It lilts on the breeze,
catches them before they dream,
makes them smile
all along, a comfort
in the recurring sound
of what they presume
to be memory.
Peace overcomes them
as they begin to realize
it is their mother's
voice speaking, singing
signalling
like comfort, peace,
and conscience -
their mother's voice
soft as wings.
