Je suis aussi com cliz qui est ravis,
Qui n’a vertu, sens ne entendement,
 - G. Machaut

Sometimes those streets seethe and
buckle
spew forth the disease
broken bottles are shark fins
cutting through the oceans of my hand
; sever the lepers limb
my eyes are vowels
and trains
clack clack pulse
silent accusations of treason.

Cai je ne sui a nelle riens pensis.

Footnote:
French is from “Je Suis Aussi”, a ballade by Guillaume De Machaut (1300-1377) written in the mid 14th century. English translation follows:

I too am like one ravished,
Who has no strength, sense, or understanding,

For unceasingly I think of nothing else.
