Alone in a Crowd
Dave Oakes
She sits quietly crying in her room
In a new world afraid and alone
She though it would be a bright new start
Instead of the loneliest time she had known.
There was a big new world
With lots of people all around
So many things she had to do
She had to cover a lot of ground.
It was awfully hectic starting here
Settling in to her brand new place
And it wasn’t made any easier
When people hassled her because of race.
Because she was a bit different they missed
She was bright and had a soul made of gold
Instead they displayed all their ignorance
And pushed her out into the cold.
When will people ever learn the truth
That is makes no difference what color you be
Or religion or height or even weight
What is in the soul is all you need to see.
Why should this lady with so much to give
Sit alone in her room with her head bowed
She should be enjoying this university life
Not sitting alone in a crowd.
