Finally

Dave Oakes

A troubled youth long ago
Had many a pain to deal with
His heart was constantly pounded
As if hammered by a blacksmith
He always had a temper to fear
And the hurt just made it so more
The hurt and anger and lack of love
Crushed him right to the core
Fighting became a way of life
And he could not break away
The anger simmered and began to boil
To the point he couldn’t hold it at bay
Any excuse was good enough
For him to choose to fight
It really did not matter to him
If he was fighting for wrong or right
Years rolled by as the temper flared
Never feeling the safety of friends
Too scared to get close and bared
It took many years for peace to come
To this poor child’s life
Many he knew are dead now, some in his arms
He had to get rid of this strife
Finally looking deep inside
And seeing how wrong he had been
Not everyone would betray and hurt
To grow you must let others in
He set up a new lifestyle now
And rid himself of the past
It wasn’t easy and took much time
But, not many great things come fast
He finally discovered that honesty
With himself must always come first
Before showing himself to the world
And make friends to slake his thirst
It hasn’t been easy for that guy
To open himself up to others
But now he can visit his friends
And not scare to death their mothers
I’m glad he finally made the choice
To begin his life anew
For I think he’s come a real long way
Since chucking the witches brew
And Even more I’m happy for him
Because I’ve known him all my life
And I couldn’t live without him
He is married to my wife
