Grieving Soul

Dave Oakes

She was devastated by her loss
Devastated by a grief that never died
Confused and dazed wondering always
Is there something else I could have tried.
Time has not seemed to heal her wounds
It has been many years yet she still grieves
For something which as much as she wanted
Was not as true or total as she believes.
I hope someday her wounds may heal
At least enough for her to live again
For although grieving is a part of healing
We cannot grieve forever for what has been.
At some point in our life we must reach in
To find the meaning in that piece of our soul
Which shows us where our real self is at
And how to live our life in full.
To be locked in a prison of constant grief
With the key in an imaginary but out of reach lock
Will reduce us to unhappy, self-pitying creatures
Whose reflection could only lead to shock.
I suggest you put away your grief right now
To look at all the good things that there are
Don’t dwell on what may have hurt in the past
But on all the good things that have brought you this far.
All things happen for a reason I think
If not for them we wouldn’t be us
We must accept the sorrow as part of our growth
And to what the future holds open up and trust.
