The Little Things

Dave Oakes

I have never even met her
Yet her sorrow makes me grieve
Her pain is too deep for the burden
She needs some perspective I believe.
When one loses one they have loved
It hurts immensely through and through
But it doesn’t mean the world will end
Though it is painful that is true.
Be grateful for the things we have
And feel joy that things are not worse
Because no matter how bad you feel it is
There is no amount of hurt you cannot nurse.
Someone always has it worse than you
Take a real good look around
Everywhere you open your eyes
Troubles and pain abound.
Be glad for all the little things you have
That you see, hear, smell, or feel things
Many don’t have that privilege
Yet they look forward to the joy life brings.
Each breath we take and each flower we smell
Brings a part of our soul to life
We need to emphasize these little things
And cut away the sorrow using our hope as a knife.
