Pita’s Song

Dave Oakes

Gliding along floating on the breeze
Never any hurry to move in any rush
All the talent in the world rests here
The need use it all the way does not
Needing to have the audience in her palm
Sucking all the energy out of them
And into all that she performs
But, content to make do conveniently
No push to take it out over the edge
Into the land where the risk takers live
Til that day when she heard the voice
That told her don’t ever leave yourself
Wondering if you should have taken the other path
Don’t you stop before you let yourself get started
Make sure that what you do is the right thing
When you’re done you’ll know before you’ve parted
That no matter what else can be said of your route
You lived every moment offered and left no doubt
Pushing every button as you try to cram it in
Getting every moment before it hits you on the chin
Knowing in the end you saw where you could have been
But, found that your happiness lies another way
Smiling and knowing the audience loves you every day
