Political Children

Dave Oakes

They are merely headstrong children
Trying to prove to themselves who is the best
Not really thinking of those who might get hurt
Thinking only of themselves, not of all the rest.
They make others do their sinister bidding
A child’s mind seeing warped new ways to win
By pretending they’re trying to help everyone
And striking before anyone is ready to begin.
They show a face full of friendship and love
While planning an agenda all of their own
You may be hungry, homeless or even dying
If you can’t help them, you are not even known.
Many say it no use for us to choose sides
It will be the same whoever comes out ahead
But, if you didn’t care to at least give a try
Maybe you belong in that abandoned bed.
Politics may be the worst game in town
The changes may never seem quite sweeping
But even a change in a small degree
Means were ahead of the company we’re keeping.
What we really need is another Revolution to come
Bringing sweeping changes while cleaning house
That will get us by for a little while I guess
Before we have re-invented our lost little mouse.
