Rage is Required
Dave Oakes
Even those who give of themselves
To try to right the wrongs they see
Must rage at the injustices around them
Trying to rally others to set them free.
Anyone can go to a soup kitchen
Put in there time now and again
Walk out the door feeling secure and smug
Saying I’ve done my part just then.
Just because you have sounded the battle cry
And try to help whenever you are able
Doesn’t mean you don’t keep spreading the word
That these things are real, they’re not just a fable.
If going to the hospice once a week
Removes that cold and empty feeling from your gut
Then you have lost sight of the reason you’re there
Your mind used to be open and now it’s shut.
If anything the fires should burn even brighter
The injustices and evils should make you rage even more
Your stomach should turn every day as you live
And not leave when you shut the door.
Either you rage against injustices and cruelty full time
Or the words you say are hollow and only crocodile tears you cry
No matter how many I have tried to help
As long as the injustice remains I must try.
Think if we didn’t need the shelter
That we cared enough to feed and clothe them all
If we all believed in the idea that we are all brothers
To bring about that change would be a noble call.
Until then I will continue to write my pathetic words
Trying to encourage others to pick up the fight
I don’t really care if you feel I am wasting my time
There are wrongs that we need to make right.
