River Run Dry
Dave Oakes
Looking out across my rivers
Trying to find the splendor before the fall
I don’t see what has been accomplished
Besides surviving through it all.
To have made a lasting mark that all will see
Long after the rivers have all run dry
Knowing that it will be always remembered
Never really going far but still it always did try.
When you are looking into an empty vastness
Which should have been filled to the very top
Realizing all the things that might have once been
But how it all disappeared so quickly with a pop.
The mountains are almost all behind you now
Only some of the smaller hills remain as you gaze
Upon all those riverbeds you worked so hard to dig
Which will soon disappear in the haze.
