Save the Babies

Dave Oakes

The child was small and all alone
No one was holding it in their arms
Just one more problem to deal with
Run through like cattle on the farms.
This baby shall pay for an eternity
The price of not being born an adult
Not born able to feed and clothe themselves
They suffer for things when they have no fault.
So many have suffered and many more will
More get abandoned to die each and every day
Thrown out with the garbage with no more thought
How can anyone treat a helpless baby way.
How can you cast them aside so easily
When they are most helpless and need help the most
We just ignore them and turn our backs to them
While looking right through them as if they were ghosts.
What kind of people are we who say we don’t care
I won’t stop and I don’t feel like taking the pill
Why wear a condom what have I got to fear
If a kid comes along we will pay the bill.
But when the time comes and you’re not ready to pay
Who protects the child created that day
Certainly not the state although they do have homes
But I know being beat and raped is not the right way.
But taking a child’s life before it is born is wrong to some
Although most of those I know don’t stop having sex
And I never see them lining up to adopt those nobody wants
It must be that the unfortunate children have some kind of hex.
I guess I don’t have the answers
Maybe nobody alive does
But while we’re looking for solutions
We should take care of the problems that was.
