The Valley
Dave Oakes
There was a valley with lush green grass
People would lie in it for hours on end
Never caring who happened to lie next to them
Not paying attention to the latest trend.
You would have a hard time explaining prejudice
Those kinds of silly things just didn’t matter
How can you worry about skin color or race
Feels so good to lie in the warm rains pitter patter.
Houses are all pretty much the same
They all have an inside and out
Whatever other differences there might be
Were no planned they just came about.
People there live they way they are happy
They have no concern that their neighbors are not the same
It doesn’t make them any better or worse off in the end
To worry about that would be such a shame.
I have sought that valley for most of my life
And tried to help build it whenever I could
I am determined that some day I will find it
Some day when we all live the way we should.
