Cat
Beth Gibson
As I walked down the street
In between my feet
Something furry
I look down without worry
It is a baby cat
One who is skinny with no fat
As I pick it up
It begins to purr
The silkiness of the fur
Ts so comforting and smooth
I continue to walk down the street
Seeing it has been beat
I take it under my wing
I walk into the pet store
The door makes a ding
I go to the cat lane
Seeing it is in pain
I run out, going to the animal hospital
They say you are too late
A tear goes down my face
In my eyes someone must have sprayed mace
The vet comes out to say
This just isn't its day
I am so sorry, Beth
But, that cat was beaten until death.
