though you are
greedy to be more spiritual,
you seem unable to appreciate
the perfection of the chipped plate,
the harmonies of the cicadas,
the gloriousness
of a flock of crows in flight.
what Van Gogh saw, you cannot see.
or if you can,
then only in a museum,
through a glass darkly.
you’ve stepped right past—
or worse, stepped on!
so many dandelions and daffodils
that grew where flowers were not expected,
that disobeyed the rules
to just be beautiful
exactly where they are.
