Dreams 03/12/06

so I was working in an office,
I had no idea what my job was there,
but I was working on Xeroxing a flyer
with dated information
to give to all of the coworkers

I realized there was a change
I had to make to the page,
so I made it,
and I made copies
and was working on pinning them
on all of my coworker’s pin boards
in their respective offices

(apparently everyone was at lunch or something,
because no one was in their office
when I was pinning these sheets
on everyone’s message pin boards)

and some coworker said something to me
as I was putting these flyers on everyone’s pin boards,
i don’t even remember what useless drivel
they said, it was probably just
that useless chatter
people will make in an office that doesn’t mean anything
that you have to deal with every day anyway

but some female coworker stopped me
to talk with me privately

she asked me about if I was happy at this company
and I don’t think I had the change to answer
because she just talked so much while I was there
but she said that I made a good move
by giving $250 to another coworker
and I was trying to say
that it was money given to me by a client
that belonged to this coworker,
so I gave it to him
but she got the impression
that I was giving the $250 to him
as bribe money,
and she was saying it was a good idea that I did that,
you know, the help me get an edge and get friends in this company

I wasn’t trying to do anything like she suggested
and I was so confused by her remark
but then she told me
that a better way for me to do better at this job
would be to change my name

and I thought, what?

and then she said, well,
the name I use in this office
is not my real name
but it sounds better for clients to hear that name
than her actual name

so I was wonder what the Hell her real name was
but she kept talking about this name concept to me,
and I think my name was something like
Elouise Fox or something
(I know that’s not my name, but in this whole scenario
it was something hideous sounding like that)
and this lady told me
that if I wanted to get customers, I should go by...
and she paused only instantly before saying
“Erica Fox,” you know, because it starts
with the same letter as my first name,
and the last name Fox sounds good,
and that’s a catchy name people can remember

and it was right about then when
I tried to deduce where I was working,
and I guessed I was supposed to be
a real estate agent or something,
and apparently people had to remember my name
so I should have a stage name for my job,
and I thought that this was completely ludicrous
and the whole scene then just stopped.
