once i saw

working for a portrait photography studio,
they train you to ask everyone
if they would like a discount portrait sitting,
especially if they have chlidren.
so every time a parent with kids walks by,
i turn on my smile and start my speil.
once i saw a man and two kids
in the distance, and i started
to grin. as they came closer,
i saw the man was walking
with two girls with dwarfism
and downs syndrome.
and i couldn’t speak.

iftheywouldlikeadiscountportraitsitting,
especiallyiftheyhavechlidren.
soeverytimeaparentwithkidswalksby,
iturnonmysmileandstartmyspeil.
onceisawamanandtwokids
inthedistance,andistarted
togrin.astheycamecloser,
isawthemanwaswalking
withtwogirlswithdwarfism
anddownssyndrome.
andicouldn’tspeak.
