(recovery) is a poetry collection book of Janet Kuypers poems written in the months after a near fatal car accident (July 11 1998), where Kuypers was stopped in her Saturn at an intersection. This is where another car, while speeding, pushed her into oncoming traffic, where another car puyshed her car for 108 feet, leaving her unconscious for 11 days. After losing her Chicago home at the same time, she later had to learn to walk and talk and eat. Feeling incredibly deserted and alone, she (while trying to learn to function again) wrote poetry excessively as a means to ler her emotions out. This is a collection of these poems, plus highlights from the performance art show Death Comes in Threes (where she talks about the a ccident and almost losing her life). There are also notes on dealing with the life-altering effects of this car accident.
This is the first time these writings have been released in this fashion, and this is the first time a collection of Kuypers has been released where Kuypers talks frankly about almost losing her life. This event completely changed her life, not only medically and physically but also emotionally. She still deals with the unhealing scars from this car crash, and this book is released in an effort to get some of the emotions from immediately after the accident out in the open.
