Live “Astronomy 101” 7/19/11 feature
at the Café poetry open mic in Chicago IL
On mini-feature night at the Café (the weekly poetry open mic she hosts) in Chicago, Janet Kuypers closed the open mic evening off by reading a few poems about astronomy (some old, but mostly new pieces), and in her show of poetry readings she included not only Aboriginal music softly for background music during her readings, but she also compiled a series of videos about the stars and costellations that were displayed during her show.
On nights with no scheduled feature performer at the Café, all open mic readers are welcome to put on a ~10 minute performance. Because Kuypers in the past has used props and films in her poetry features, she decided that with reading these poems about astronomy, some video was in order. She found images and used screen savers on her computer to generate moving astronomy images, so she could then create custom films for her “Astronomy 101” feature.
