poetry readings from the Fortune Featurette on June 20th, 2008
Janet Kuypers was the first impromptu feature at the Mercury Cafe (1505 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago) on June 20th of 2008, due to the inability of the original feature (Cathleen Schandelmeier) to attend this evening.
Kuypers originally planned to read 4 poems from her custom-made poetry fortune — remember those folded paper fortunes girls would make when they were little? Well, inside this enlarged paper fold-out “fortune” was 4 poems, all dealing with problems relating to relationships. But because of the space for this evening of poetry, Kuypers was asked to read additional poems. So, from her books she happened to have on hand (the poetry book etc. and the 2004 collection book Oeuvre) she found additional poems to read for the group.
