YOU SHOULD HAVE MORE PRIDE

Michelle Bier

We takeÊour freedom for granted,
Thinking that freedom is always free...
But remember those men and women who are so far away,
Doing their jobs to keep us all safe---that’s you and me.

Ê Every day they are fighting, scared, and homesick,
Not knowing what will happen from one moment to another...
TakingÊa minuteÊhere and there to pull out and re-read those letters,
Addressed from a mother, dad, wife, girlfriend, sister, or brother.

Ê Each day, you will see an older man in the stores and streets,
Notice the hats they wear that read I AM A VIETNAM or KOREAN VET...
It means they have seen things that we will never have to do or see,
Did you ever stop to notice how on Memorial Day..their eyes are always wet?

Ê Have you ever been afraid EVERY minute of the day,
That another person was going to end your life?
Can you imagine how it wouldÊhurt to watch soldiers fold up the American flag,
And hand it to the fallen soldier’s husband or wife?

Ê No, most of us don’t have to go through that,
But you should show a little more American Pride...
Because there will always be men and women fighting for us,
No matter how scared they are inside.

Ê So please don’t laugh at my yellow ribbon,
That I keep outside on my porch...
It will stay up until ALL US soldiers are home again,
And they see once again be welcomed by our Lady and her torch.
