TREES

(accepted by Graphic Poetry and Pennine Ink)

Brian Burch

Tree shadows are more alive
than trees.

Tree branches move painfully.
Shadow branches sway gracefully.

Tree trunks are rigid.
Shadow trunks are fluid.

Tree leaves wave.
Shadow leaves dance.

DIVERSE SPECIES

Brian Burch

Late at night my cat leaps onto the bed, curls up and purrs.
Far away in life,
we once did the same.

Now our interwoven lives intersect,
holding together different streams
of love and care and families and dreams.

LOOKING OUT THE GREYHOUND WINDOW

Brian Burch

There is still a sense of romance
to any farmer’s field:

Living faith in the future,
blatant trust
in the potential of creation.

EACH YEAR

(previously published in Free Fall) Brian Burch

Love always seem reborn in the spring.
We echo the seasons, each year
yearning, each year resting,
each year intense, each year still.
