#47 (Oz)

Jeremiah Gilbert

Along the yellow brick
reality stands a tin scarecrow,
its heart removed by some
wayward traveler looking
for Kansas but only finding
witches and emeralds.

Window

Jeremiah Gilbert

He looks
through his
window
Knowing that
every eye
of the world
is on him--
watching,
glaring,
piercing--
And he wishes
that he were
among them.

The Moon

Jeremiah Gilbert

Beyond the darkness
there is darkness.

Beyond the tower
at the beginning of time--
darkness.

Past the kingdom
further along--
darkness.

Before the pit
and after the fall--
darkness.

Preceding wisdom
and following failure--
darkness.

That is the only certainty.
