PATIENCE

Erica Stux

Daily, a hawk perches on a
Power transformer, and
Surveys the field and shrubbery.
Feathers ruffled, he waits for
Mouse or squirrel to venture
Into his purview. I wonder,
Does he ever catch one?

A TEST

Erica Stux

My net brings up small monsters,
Bristly creatures from the stream’s base,
Alien shapes like from a horror movie.

I peer at them with pure relief:
Proof that all is well here;
The water’s still unsullied.

COMMUNICATION

Erica Stux

Dolphins dance a wild fandango
In their azure milieu, and
Nuzzle human swimmers to
Welcome them into their midst.

SPRING PEEPERS

Erica Stux

I listen for spring peepers,
Those little froggy leapers.
On cool evenings of spring
I’m so glad to hear them sing.

As long as peepers have their song,
I know the world will get along.
