THIS AGING

Cheryl Townsend

My libido twists
not quite the
spiral float of a leaf
downward
but more so the
droop of a smile
when I say no

TIME WAS WHEN

Cheryl Townsend

my hair would tangle
around your fingers
and sweat would pool
in the cup of my navel
When we were
the only people
who could not hear
things neither of us
remembered saying
Time was when
and then it was gone

EVEN INTO MAY

Cheryl Townsend

We don’t need any more rain
It’s been pouring now for weeks
Everything is shifting
and I don’t even know the time
There are trees & wires & spirits down
There are sump pumps giving up
There are cars stalled in overruns
and things in my yard not mine

HOW WE LEFT IT

Cheryl Townsend

I walk on your shadow
with 4 inch heals
It goes one way
and I
turn to go
the other
